Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Government should spend more money supporting arts than supporting athletics such as an Olympic team.
From my point of view, the government should spend money equally on arts and sports. Both of them are important. On the one hand, arts serve as an entertainment to enrich people’s daily life; on the other hand, sports are also crucial since they are related to citizens’ fitness.
In some countries, arts are not developed very well because generally, unlike the people doing other jobs, artists don’t have high and stable salaries. An unknown painter may not be able to raise the price of his work very high even if it is really a masterpiece. This phenomenon does happen because reputation is an extremely essential element in art field. Thus, someone who is good at drawing may not treat it as his job and the number of good works will surly decrease. I think it is the government’s duty to pay good painters extra wages in order to encourage them to keep on working. Besides, for some students who are really interested in arts and also willing to make them as their careers, the government should spend some money in training them. With the guide of the masters, students can make greater improvement than study on their own. Also, some of the funds should be used in running exhibitions of outstanding artists’ works so that the national arts will not decline.
Sport is a very crucial cause of a country since it is a good way to encourage people to do exercise and keep healthy. Watching competitions between teams is also a nice entertainment for citizens. In my opinion, the government should spend enough money on team training so that the athletics in the national teams will become stronger and more competitive. If the national teams become competitive worldwide, local people will be motivated to play sports, which will push the cause of sports to be further developed.
In short, as arts and sports are equally essential for a country, the government should pay attention to both of them and give abundant financial supports to them. The investment will be beneficial for both the citizens and the whole country.
