乱用这类雅思口语表达后,扣分扣惨了!

  了解雅思口语考试的同学应该知道,雅思口语想上7分的话,非常推荐使用习语,包括小编之前也给同学们展示过高分的习语和例句,帮助大家更接近native speaker的说话方式。给不知道什么是习语的同学科普一下:

  习语可以理解为成语,它的含义并不是每个单词的表面意思单纯相加,而是有完全不同的意思,比如“rain cats and dogs”,就不是“下猫猫和狗狗的意思”,而是指“倾盆大雨”。这类表达和像方言的俚语不同,会被所有native speaker使用。

  不过,在同学们使用的过程中,掌柜发现了很多使用不当反而被扣分的情况

       ...绝 对可以说是得不偿失...

  究竟是哪些地方用得不对?南京雅思培训班老师为大家总结了下面三种。

乱用这类雅思口语表达后,扣分扣惨了!

  使用场景不对

  这可能是大家最常犯的错误之一了。就像中文中的成语一样,习语的使用也有一定的门槛。所以同学们在尝试使用它们之前,必须要先了解他们的含义和在上下文中的使用方法。

  打个比方:有一个习语是“once in a blue moon”,可能有的考生看到“once”,就以为是描述频率的表达,在考官问做一件事的频率时,这个学生就用了这个习语,然后开始描述ta是如何定期进行这项活动的,其实它的意思是——罕见;千载难逢...

  结果显而易见,并不会有任何加分的效果,反而可能引起考官的反感。

  如何避免这种错误?

  在学习的时候,就要做好前期的准备,确定自己搞懂了习语的真正含义,其实在线的词典也都有“idiom”这一板块,所以同学们完全可以不花钱获得最正确的指导。

  另一个方法就是去听native speaker是如何使用它们的,去哪里看呢?美剧、英剧、油管、甚至Tiktok上面,都可以听到纯正的英语材料。所以任何时候大家碰到了,都可以记下来,然后练习正确地使用它们。

  说错习语

  让人脚趾尴尬得能抠出三室一厅的错误就是它!!!尤其在native speaker面前说出口的刹那...估计直接想换个星球生活。

  大家就想象一下,歪果仁在我们面前说“屡不试爽”时我们是什么感受,我们说“rain dogs and cats”时他们就是什么感受...(正确说法是“rain cats and dogs”,没有发现异常的小伙伴要“面壁思过”1秒钟哦)

  除了“rain cats and dogs”,常见的几个容易说错的习语还有:

  ■ Hit the nail with the hammer

  ■ Overjoyed the moon

  ■ Once per moon

  如何避免这种错误?

  这种错误通常是因为同学们在没有完全记忆下来之前就急于求成地使用,反而容易闹出笑话。对于这种错误,同学们要遵循“100%规则”,即除非你100%了解该习语的含义、用途和发音,否则不要使用它!希望同学们在备考的时候时刻谨记这一点哦~

  过度使用习语

  这类错误虽然不太可能在各位同学的答案中出现,但掌柜还是看过有考生这么“秀”过,即用习语把答案塞满,就像下面这样:

  Where are you from?

        You will be really over the moon when you visit my hometown, but it often rains cats and dogs. I only go there once in a blue moon. If you go, you will really hit the nail on the head.

  这类其实也是犯了对口语一知半解的错误,牺牲了回答的自然度,使用大量的高 级表达,意图向考官展示自己的词汇储备量,但适得其反。

  所以虽然掌柜一直推荐你们使用习语,但也要记得研究一下native speaker使用习语的频率,千万不要闹出笑话哦~

  说了这么多,到底该背什么样的习语,以及该如何背呢?下面掌柜给大家展示一下背习语的正确姿势。

  习语本来就是native speaker才能熟练使用的表达,所以同学们在记忆的时候就最好不要只背中文意思,以免造成误解。其次上文也说过,最好放到句子和上下文中记忆,下面掌柜就给大家再罗列一些雅思官方推荐在口语考试中可以使用的习语。

  1. Out of the blue

  英文释义:Something that happened unexpectedly

  例句:

  Last year, out of the blue, he asked me to marry him!

  2. In the red

  英文释义:To owe money, to not have money

  例句:

  I couldn't afford the bill, I was in the red.

  3. Give someone the green light

  英文释义:To give permission

  例句:

  I was given the green light to start this new project.

  4. A white lie

  英文释义:To tell a lie that is not very serious

  例句:

  I don't think we should get in trouble for telling a white lie.

  5. Green with envy

  英文释义:To be jealous/envious

  例句:

  She was green with envy when she saw my ring.

  6. Day and night

  英文释义:Continually working without stopping

  例句:

  I was studying day and night for my IELTS test.

  7. Drop out

  英文释义:To leave without finishing

  例句:

  She dropped out of the course because it was too hard.

  8. Learn by heart

  英文释义:To memorise

  例句:

  I learned all the words by heart.

  9. Pass with flying colours

  英文释义:To pass a test with a high grade

  例句:

  I really hope I pass with flying colours.

  10. Bookworm

  英文释义:Someone who reads a lot

  例句:

  When I was younger, I was a bookworm, I just loved reading.

  11. Like a kid in a candy store

  英文释义:Very excited about something

  例句:

  When I arrived in the city I was like a kid in a candy store, there was so much to see and do.

  12. To follow in someone's footsteps

  英文释义:To achieve the same things that someone else did

  例句:

  I followed in my mother's footsteps and became a teacher.

  13. To run in the family

  英文释义:Qualities that are similar in family members

  例句:

  We are all good at maths, it runs in the family.

  14. As sick as a dog

  英文释义:Feeling very ill

  例句:

  I was as sick as a dog that night.

  15. On the mend

  英文释义:Recovering, getting better

  例句:

  I cared for my father while he was on the mend.

  16. Practice makes perfect

  英文释义:To continuously improve by practising

  例句:

  My teacher said that practice makes perfect, so I need to practise more.

  17. Driving me up the wall

  英文释义:Something that annoys you

  例句:

  Waiting for my results is really driving me up the wall.

  18. Better late than never

  英文释义:It's better to do something late than not to try it

  例句:

  I didn't know how to drive till I was 30, but better late than never.

  19. Blind as a bat

  英文释义:Can't see, bad eyesight

  例句:

  I'm as blind as a bat, I really need my reading glasses.
