　　如何精读雅思阅读？手把手带你精读雅思阅读！阅读是雅思四科中相对简单的处分的科目，但还是有些小伙伴们觉得阅读做不完，很多长难句看不懂。大家其实都知道问题原因出在语法(句子结构分析)和词汇量上。

　　但除了语法、词汇，还有一个很重要、却容易被忽略的点，就是文章中所使用的词汇搭配。很多小伙伴阅读文章的时候习惯性地把一个个词在脑海里翻译成中文，这就导致了阅读速度很慢，而且有的时候即使认识单词，也看不懂意思。当然有人会说，雅思阅读不需要去读整篇文章，有很多的做题技巧。没错，这点我不否认，但是咱们考雅思的目的是以后去国外读书/工作/生活，所以还是除了掌握一些做题技巧以外，也应该把备考雅思当作一个提高整体英文水平的好机会。

　　所以往后James每周都会带着大家精读一篇雅思阅读文章，除了会讲到一些复杂的语法结构和高级词汇以外，我们会把重点放在文章中的词汇搭配上。通过这样的方式，不仅可以帮助提高阅读速度，还可以积累很多地道的表达方式，同时帮助提高写作和口语。

　　- 段落一 -

　　Ecotourism is often regarded as a form of nature-based tourism and has become an important alternative source of tourists.

　　Be regarded as：被认为是...，regard做动词是“认为”的意思。 例句：The job of chairman can no longer be regarded as a convenient soft option. 别再以为董事长这份工作是那么容易做到的。

　　A form of ：...的一种形式，例句：Gambling is a form of entertainment. 赌博是一种娱乐。

　　Alternative： 在英语中较为常用，表示备选的，它的词根是alter，意思为“其他的”。 例句：New ways to treat arthritis may provide an alternative to painkillers. 关节炎的新疗法可能是止痛药之外的另一种选择。

　　In addition to providing the traditional resort-leisure product, it has been argued that ecotourism resort management should have a particular focus on best-practice environmental management, an educational and interpretive component, and direct and indirect contributions to the conservation of the natural and cultural environment (Ayala, 1996).

　　In addition to：除此之外的意思，add是增加，addition是其名词形式。例句：In addition to my weekly wage, I got a lot of tips. 除了每周的薪水外，我还能得到不少。

　　It has been argued that…句型在英文正式文体中很常见，等同于some people argue that…, 一些人争论道。。。例句：Therefore it is argued that this is discrimination against people with physically deteriorating illnesses. 因此人们争论说这是对那些患有身体状况不断恶化疾病的人们的歧视。

　　Have a focus on sth 和常用的focus on是一个意思，表达“专注于”，可以与concentrate on进行替换。例句：Twitter users have a clear focus on current affairs推特的用户对于时事表现出明显的关注。

　　Contribution to 对。。。做出的贡献，对应的动词搭配有contribute to. 例句：I believe that each of us can contribute to the future of the world. 我相信我们每一个人都能够对世界的未来有所贡献。

　　Conserve可以和preserve进行替换，表示“保护”的意思。Conserve的是serve有保留的意思。 例句：The republic’s factories have closed for the weekend to conserve energy. 为了节约能源，该共和国的工厂周末不开工。

　　Couran Cove Island Resort is a large integrated ecotourism-based resort located south of Brisbane on the Gold Coast, Queensland, and Australia. As the world’s population becomes increasingly urbanized, the demand for tourist attractions which are environmentally friendly, serene and offer amenities of a unique nature has grown rapidly.

　　Integrated：in往里面，gra走。往里面走，就是融合的意思。例句：He didn’t integrate successfully into the Italian way of life. 他没有顺利地融入到意大利的生活方式中。a large integrated ecotourism-based resort located south, located 是过去分词做后置定语修饰resort，翻译为“坐落于南边的度假胜地”。

　　Increasingly 表示“越来越。。。”，可以和more and more替换。例句：He was finding it increasingly difficult to make decisions. 他发现越来越难以做出决定。

　　Couran Cove Resort, which is one such tourist attractions, is located on South Strabroke Island, occupying approximately 150 hectares of the island. South Stradbroke Island is separated from the mainland by the Broadwater, a stretch of sea 2 kilometers wide. More than a century ago, there was only one Stradbroke Island, and there were at least four Aboriginal tribes living and hunting as tuberculosis, smallpox and influenza by the end of the 19th century.

　　Which is one such tourist attractions 做插入语，完整的句子是Couran Cove Resort is located on ...，occupying是现在分词表状态做伴随状语，occupy本来是“占领”的意思，这里表示“面积达。。。” ，现在分词表伴随的动作和状态在英文中很常见，例句：Looking at the picture, I couldn’t help missing those old school days. 看着这个照片，我忍不住回想起在学校的那些旧时光。

　　A stretch of 表示一片。。。， 原文可以翻译成“一片2 前米宽的海”。 Stretch 同样也可以表示一段时间：例句：She used to read for hours at a stretch. 她以前看书常常连看几小时。

　　Aboriginal tribes 是指原始部落。Aboriginal的词根是ori-,是起源的意思。Original代表原始的。例句：I think you should go back to your original plan.我认为你应该回头执行你原来的计划。

　　The second ship wrecked on the island in 1894, and the subsequent destruction of the ship (the Cambus Wallace) because it contained the weakened land form and Sradbroke became two islands. Couran Cove Island Resort is built on one of the world’s few naturally-occurring sand lands, which is home to a wide range of plant communities mangrove and rainforest left on the Gold Coast. Many have been cleared, drained or filled for residential, industrial, agricultural or urban development in the first half of the 20th century. Farmers and glaziers finally abandoned South Stradbroke Island in 1939 because the vegetation and the soil conditions there were not suitable for agricultural activities.

　　Subsequent：接下来发生的。sub表示under， sequ-表示follow. 例句：Those concerns were overshadowed by subsequent events. 随后发生的事使之前所关注的那些问题显得无足轻重。

　　Naturally-occurring 表示“天然存在的”，英语中类似这样的带有连字符的单词较为常见。比如hard-working, eight-year-old. Which is home to…表示。。。是。。。的家。

　　A wide range of 指的是”各式各样的，广泛的。Range表示类别的意思。例句：A wide range of colours and patterns are available. 各种颜色和样式都有。

　　- 段落三 -

　　Being located on an offshore island, the resort is only accessible by means of water transport. The resort provides hourly ferry service from the marina on the mainland to and from the island. Within the resort, transport modes include walking trails, bicycle tracks and the beach train.

　　Being located on 表示坐落于，修饰的是主句的主语resort, 理解为 “坐落于一个沿海岛屿上的度假胜地”。

　　Accessible 表示“可以接触到的”，动词名词形式是access, 进入，获取的意思。名词是“入口”的意思。例句：The facilities have been adapted to give access to wheelchair users. 这些设施已经改造过以方便轮椅使用者进入。

　　By means of 表示“通过。。。的方式”，means是渠道，方式的意思。

　　Hourly ferry service from … to …表示服务的范围。

　　Transport mode 表示交通方式，mode表示方式的意思，例句：A mode of communication 交流方式

　　The reception area is the counter of the shop which has not changed for 8 years at least. The accommodation is an octagonal “Bure”. These are large rooms that are clean but the equipment is tired and in some cases just working. Our ceiling fan only worked on high speed for example. Beds are hard but clean. There is a television, a radio, an old air conditioner and a small fridge.

　　The equipment is tired and in some cases just working 表示这个设备已经老旧了，勉强在一些情况下刚刚才可以运行。Tired不是指劳累的，而是表示“设备久用后的不再灵光的状态”。

　　These “Bures” are tight on top of each other and night noises do carry, so be careful what you say and do. The only thing is the mosquitoes, but if you forget to bring mosquito repellant they sell some on the island. As an ecotourism-based resort, most of the planning and development of the attraction has been concentrated on the need to co-exist with the fragile natural environment of South Stradbroke Island to achieve sustainable development.

　　Mosquito repellant 表示驱蚊剂，repellant的前缀re是back的意思，pel表示drive驱走。向后驱赶的意思。例句：That woman has a repellant personality. I abhor her. 那个女人的性格令人反感。我讨厌她。

　　Co-exist 表示共存，co是表示“共同”的意思。Sustainable development可持续发展。Sustainable的动词形式是sustain维持的意思，例句：Which planets can sustain life?哪些行星可以维持生命的存在?

　　South Strabroke Island has groundwater at the center of the island, which as a maximum height of 3 meters above sea level. The water supply is recharged by rainfall and is commonly known as an unconfined freshwater aquifer. Couran Cove Island Resort obtains its water supply by taping into this aquifer and extracting it via a bore system.

　　Be commonly known as被广泛熟知为。。。例句：Kung Fu is commonly known as the Chinese martial arts 功夫以中国武术为人所知。

　　Extract 提取，ex表示“向外”的意思，tract表示抽出。例句：Citric acid can be extracted from the juice of oranges, lemons, limes or grapefruit. 柠檬酸可以从橙汁，柠檬汁，酸橙汁或者柚子汁里面提取。

　　Via 表示“通过，经过，凭借”的意思，是一个介词。

　　1.表示途经 例句：We flew home via Dubai.我们乘飞机经迪拜回国。

　　2. 表示凭借 例句：The technology to allow relief workers to contact the outside world via satellite already exists 能够让救援人员通过卫星和外界联系的技术已经存在。

　　Some of the problems which have threatened the island’s freshwater problems, all laundry activities are carried out on the mainland. The resort considers washing machines as onerous to the island’s fresh water supply, and that the detergents contain a high level of phosphates which are a major source of water pollution.

　　Carry out 实施，完成，例句：I myself will firmly carry out this plan. 我本人将坚决执行这个计划。

　　Onerous 繁重的，麻烦的,例句：Parents who have had the onerous task of bringing up a very difficult child. 曾经辛辛苦苦地养育过任性难缠的孩子的父母亲。

　　Consider sth as sth else 把。。。视为。。。,例句：What do you consider as the most outstanding characteristics of English education in China? 您认为中国英语教育最突出的特点是什么?

　　Detergent 表示去垢剂，deterge洗净的意思。例句：Joe put the plug in the sink and squeezed some detergent over the dishes. 乔用塞子塞住水槽，往盘子上挤了点洗涤剂。

　　The resort uses LPG-power generation rather than a diesel- powered plant for its energy supply, supplemented by wind turbine, which has reduced greenhouse emissions by 70% of diesel-equivalent generation methods. Excess heat recovered from the generator is used to heat the swimming pool. Hot water in the eco-cabins and for some of the resort’s vehicles are solar-powered.

　　Supplemented by 过去分词做伴随状语，修饰的是主句的主语。表示：由wind turbine补给的resort. 例句：She entered, accompanied by her mother. 她由母亲陪伴着走了进来。

　　Diesel-powered plant 柴油机充电的工厂。Diesel-equivalent generation methods 等同于柴油机的发电方式， equivalent表示等同的, 它的词根是equi表示equal同等的意思。

　　Generate electricity是常用搭配，表示发电。

　　Excess heat recovered from the generator 从发电器里获得的多余热量。Recover是回复，重新获得的意思。Excess表示多余的，例句：An excess of house plants in a small flat can be oppressive. 在小公寓中拜访过多室内植物会让人觉得很压抑。

　　Water efficient fittings are also installed in showers and toilets. However, not all the appliances used by the resort are energy efficient, such as refrigerators. Visitors who stay at the resort are encouraged to monitor their water and energy usage via the in-house television systems, and are rewarded with prizes (such as a free return trip to the resort) accordingly if their usage level is low.

　　Water efficient表示节水的，energy efficient节能的，Efficient表示效率高的。例句：With today’s more efficient contraception women can plan their families and careers. 如今有了更加有效的避孕方法，女性便可以规划她们的家庭和事业。

　　Fitting 表示装置设备的意思。可以和equipment, facilities进行替换。

　　Not all appliances used by the resort are energy efficient. 不是所有的在度假村李世勇的设备都是节能的。在这里used不是谓语，而是过去分词做后置定语修饰appliances. 句子的结构应该是主系表，即not all appliances are energy efficient.

　　Be encouraged to do 被鼓励做某事，例句：Children should be encouraged to be independent thinkers. 应鼓励孩子们成为独立思考者

　　- 段落五 -

　　The resort has embraced and has effectively implemented contemporary environmental management practices. It has been argued that the successful implementation of the principles of sustainability should promote long-term social, economic and environmental benefits, while ensuring and enhancing the prospects of continued viability for the tourism enterprise. Couran Cove Island does not conform to the characteristics of the Resort Development Spectrum, as proposed by Prideaux (2000).

　　Embrace 有拥抱的意思，这里表示包含，可以和include替换。例句：The talks embraced a wide range of issues. 这些谈话涉及的问题非常广泛。还有一个意思是欣然接受，信奉的意思，例句：to embrace democracy 信奉民主。

　　It has been argued that 有人争辩说，可以看做是some people argue that…。例句：Therefore it is argued that this is discrimination against people with physically deterioration illnesses. 因此人们争论说这是对那些患有审题状况不断恶化疾病的人们的歧视。

　　According to Prideaux, the resort should be at least Phase 3 of the model (the National tourism phase), which describes an integrated resort providing 3-4 star hotel-type accommodation. The primary tourist market in Phase 3 of the model consists mainly of interstate visitors.

　　primary 表示首要的，它的词根prim意思是first. 例句：That’s the primary reason the company’s share price has held up so well. 这是公司股票价格一直居高不下的主要原因。

　　Phase 是阶段的意思，可以和stage替换。例句：his autumn, 6000 residents will participate in the first phase of the project今年秋天，将有6000名居民参加该项目的第一阶段。

　　However, the number of interstate and international tourists visiting the resort is small, with the principal visitor markets comprising locals and residents from nearby towns and the Gold Coast region. The carrying capacity of Couran Cove does not seem to be of any concern to the Resort management.

　　Visiting是现在分词做后置定语修饰tourists，表示拜访这个度假村的游客。

　　Principal表示主要的，同时也可以做名词，意为校长，本金。 例句：The principal reason for my change of mind is this. 这是我改变主意的最主要原因。

　　the number of interstate and international tourists visiting the resort is small, with the principal visitor markets comprising locals and residents...，这里用到了with引导的伴随状语。With是一个介词后面接的应该是短语而不是句子，而as引导的伴随状语则是接句子。例句：He came out of the room with his eyes shining. 他走出房间，眼里闪着泪花。As引导的伴随状语：As the production increased by 20 percent, we have had another good year. 随着生产量增加了百分之二十，我们又有了一个丰收年。

　　Comprise = consist of组成，com共同的，prise抓住，一起抓住即包含。 例句：The collection comprises 327 paintings. 这部画册收有327幅画。

　　Carrying capacity 表示承载能力。Carry是携带的意思，这里加上ing，变为形容词修饰capacity

　　Given that it is a private commercial Eco tourist enterprise, regulating the number of visitors to the resort to minimize the damage done to the natural environment on the South Stradbroke Island is not a binding constraint. However, the Resort’s growth will eventually be constrained by its carrying capacity, and quantity control should be incorporated in the management strategy of the resort.

　　Given that表示鉴于，例句：Usually, I am sensible with money, as I have to be, given that I don’t earn that much. 考虑到自己挣得1不多，我用钱通常比较精打细算。

　　Enterprise是公司，企业的意思, 相似的单词还有firm, company, corporation.区别在于：enterprise指通常较难完成的事业， firm指规模较小的公司，company指规模较大，有自己的文化的公司，corporation指法人团体，或者大的跨国公司。

　　binding constraint：紧固的约束，制约- binding表示有约束力的，bind是捆绑的意思。同样可以做名词，意为粘合剂。例句：Its books are noted for the quality of their paper and bindings. 其图书以纸质优良，封面精美而闻名。- Constraint 表示约束，con一起，strain拉扯，拉到一起意为约束强迫的意思。例句: Their decision to abandon the trip was made because of financial constraints. 他们决定放弃这次出游是因为财力有限。
