It is a photo album that I bought, whenI visited one of the Maldives’ islands. I went to Maldives a few years ago. Oneof the islands that are very popular among tourists is called Vera Waru. When Iwent there I came across a local bazaar organized by the native island people. Manynative vendors sell souvenirs for a living. There were a great variety of accessorizes,like rings, key chains, and necklaces and alike, and also they sell householddecors and ornaments. But there was one particular thing that caught my eye,and that was a photo album. It didn’t cost much but it involves all the indigenouselements, the nature and the spirit of the beautiful island. It was about halfan A4-size paper and it has about fifty sheets, each with both sides having onesleeve for a photo. There is a leaf on each page. I was told the leaves werefrom the local trees and they are of different shapes and each has a color thatis different from another. The book has a special scent that smells like theisland, the beach and the sea. It weighs as an ordinary pocket fiction bookweighs and it has a similar size. So when I came back from the island, for sometime, I used to put it in my coat pocket in cold seasons, I thought that couldremind me of the beautiful things I saw on the island and the days I woke inthe breeze of the island, until one day, my sister finds that I carry the photoalbum on me, and she mocked me for being zhuangbi, in English, beingpretentious.
