　　The seismic shifts on our planet, be they the result of natural calamities or human-induced actions, have led to the alarming extinction of various animal species. While the forces of nature are beyond our control, proactive steps can be taken by humanity to alleviate and forestall the loss of many of these species.

　　Reflecting on Earth's evolutionary saga, the extinction of animal species is an inevitable part of the natural order. Countless species that once roamed our planet are now only echoes in the annals of history, with most of their disappearances predating human existence. For example, the sudden obliteration of an entire species can occur through catastrophic events such as volcanic eruptions. A stark illustration of this is the devastating asteroid impact that occurred tens of millions of years ago, leading to the extinction of the dinosaurs. Other natural phenomena, such as fluctuations in sea levels or shifts in climate, whether warming or cooling, can also trigger the extinction of species. A case in point is the demise of species like the saber-toothed tiger and the mammoth during the plummeting temperatures of the Ice Ages. In the face of such relentless forces, the idea of human intervention to prevent extinction might seem futile.

　　However, this does not mean that human activities are without fault in the ongoing extinction crisis, especially in modern times. Despite the natural progression of species extinction, the rapid expansion of industrialization and commercialization has intensified the issue. For instance, the encroachment on habitats for industrial and agricultural development has left many species homeless and vulnerable. Moreover, illicit hunting and fishing, driven by profit motives such as the illegal ivory trade, have pushed endangered species like elephants to the brink of extinction. By this token, human actions, undeniably, have contributed to the decline of wildlife populations.
