今天我们学习一些与城市住房相关的词汇。
1. overcrowding /ˌovɚ'kraʊdɪŋ/
n. 过度拥挤;拥挤不堪
e.g. The housing market in metropolis is experiencing a crisis due to severe overcrowding, resulting in skyrocketing rent prices.
e.g. Overcrowding in the wildlife sanctuary has raised concerns about the well-being of the animals and their natural habitats.
补充：metropolis ;大都会;大都市
wildlife sanctuary 野生动物保护区
其他搭配：
mitigate/ combat overcrowding 缓解过度拥挤
e.g. Efforts are underway to mitigate overcrowding in public transportation through the introduction of additional services.
2. mortgage /'mɔːgɪdʒ/
n. 按揭;抵押贷款
常见搭配：take out / arrange /get a mortgage 办理房贷
Pay off / pay the mortgage 付清/支付房贷
e.g. If I lose my job, we won’t be able to pay the mortgage.
e.g. The bank helped her to arrange a 30-year mortgage and I paid it off 5 years earlier.

e.g. After buying their dream home, they soon found themselves feeling like mortgage slaves, struggling to make both ends meet.
e.g. An increasing number of young people today prioritize experiences over homeownership, allowing them to travel and embrace a footloose and fancy-free life.

3. let /let/
v. 出租房屋、土地等;
搭配：let something to someone.
e.g. She is thinking of letting her house to someone so that she could pay the mortgage.
n. 出租;租借
e.g. The monthly let for the apartment is £1,000.
雅思听力 8-3-1：Length of let required：2years.
对应原文：Do you know how long you want to rent the house for? The minimum let is six months, as you probably realize.

4. cramped /kræmpt/
adj. 狭窄的;狭小的;
e.g. The family of five live in a cramped apartment, which leaves no room for privacy.
